Which iPhones support eSIM?

Simaya works on any iPhone that supports eSIM and isn't locked to one carrier.

iPhone models with eSIM

iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, and every iPhone released after them, support eSIM. That includes iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later, and every iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 model.

Exceptions by country of purchase

  • In China mainland, only iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM.
  • In Hong Kong and Macao, some iPhone models have two nano-SIM slots instead of eSIM.

Check that your iPhone isn't carrier locked

An iPhone locked to one carrier can't use another carrier's eSIM. Open Settings, General, About, and look next to Carrier Lock: it should say No SIM restrictions. If it doesn't, ask your carrier to unlock it before you travel.

Check in the app

On a plan's page in the Simaya app, "Is this iPhone compatible?" shows whether iOS reports eSIM support on your iPhone. It can't see a carrier lock, so check that in Settings too.

Android, iPad and other devices

Simaya is an iPhone app. Plans are bought and installed in the app, so other devices aren't supported for now.
